Nashville, Tennessee (April 21, 2011) – Big Machine Records duo, Steel Magnolia, Chevrolet and CBS Radio helped gather over 800 cell phones for Chevrolet’s “Cell Phones For Soldiers” campaign. The initiative raises funds to purchase pre-paid calling cards to send to soldiers serving abroad. Students from Ft. Pierce, FL’s John Carroll High School and Tampa, FL’s Braden River High School collected the most phones, winning acoustic performances from the hot duo, Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones.

“We really love this campaign. We know what it’s like to be away from home. Being able to connect our soldiers with their loved ones back home and play for these students who worked so hard for this cause is a win-win all the way around,” said Linsey. “It was cool that Chevy supported this campaign and of course we love our friends at WIRK and WQYK who helped promote it,” said Jones.

John Carroll High School in Ft. Pierce beat eight other schools in the West Palm Beach area, collecting more than 500 cell phones that will be used to buy international calling cards for servicemen and woman across the globe. Just last night at Braden River High School in Tampa the River High Pirates raked in over 300 devices for the program. Steel Magnolia treated over 1,000 students at both schools to a free concert that included a performance of the Top 10 smash, “Keep On Lovin’ You,” and their current single, “Last Night Again.”

“This was a terrific way for our Chevrolet dealers to partner with local high schools for the benefit of our men and women serving overseas. ‘Cell Phone For Soldiers’ is a great organization and we appreciate Steel Magnolia’s partnership with this event,” said Tom Gilbert, Chevrolet Southeast Regional Marketing Manager.
