Artist: The Dirt Drifters
Label: Warner Brothers Nashville
Release: 2011 (Unreleased at time of review)
When The Dirt Drifters sang about about "Something Better", they must have been talking about their debut cd, "This is My Blood" because it is definitely something better than what we've been hearing out there lately. Finally, a group with more than a mere hint of country. These guys produce nothing less than raw, gritty country rock with a vintage brand of rhythm and kick. The only words that can really express the feeling of this cd are "very cool". I promise you that The Dirt Drifters aren't like anything you've heard before. Now you might say they remind you of another artist or band, but it's definitely not a knock off sound of anyone, this is pure original Dirt Drifters. These guys have done the honky tonk bar circuit, the backwoods country fairs and festivals. They're definitely ready for something better and country music fans are ready for what they have to offer.
First things first, the marketing of this project is nothing short of pure genius. The limited edition packaging is a vinyl LP version of "This is My Blood" along with a cd version, the cd single for "Something Better" and a video cd. LOVE IT! No other artist has done something this cool, at least not that I've seen since the late 70's. The pure driving beat and upbeat tempo of this cd is enough to have you tapping your fingers on the steering wheel and making a total ass of yourself at stoplights, people beside you are probably gonna point and laugh at your "car dancing" and singing along with this one. With the awesome guitar in this band, I guarantee you'll be playing along with your air guitar in no time. The first single released to radio, "Something Better", is full of energy and enthusiasm. Who needs caffeine when you have a cd player and this cd? It's got more energy than a Red Bull ever had. The cd is full of shoulder shimmying, butt shaking good music. Another great song is "It Takes A Man" and being a girl, I can tell you, this song is right on. It takes a man to get a man off my mind! Who wrote this stuff? I swear a woman had to be involved! Case in point, "Married Men and Motel Rooms". Nothing good EVER comes of that combination, the lyrics warn and any woman can agree with that 100%. The whole cd is just flippin' awesome and well worth the wait. This cd proves that if you wait long enough, something better like the Dirt Drifters will come along.
When the official cd is released, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing it. Hell, buy more than one copy and give 'em to music lovers for Christmas. Nothing says love like an awesomely cool vinyl limited edition LP! Until this comes out, you can purchase their "Tour Six Pack 2010" EP at http://store. thedirtdrifters.com/product/ tour-six-pak-2010.
GET IT! What the hell are you waiting for? This ain't crossover or your mama's country music, this is different and this is more than welcome in my cd library anytime!
