Behind The Song: "The House That Built Me"

"The House That Built Me" is one of the biggest hits of the past few years, one that really kicked Miranda Lambert into mega-star status. The story goes that Blake Shelton had the song submitted to him for consideration and Miranda insisted that she be the one to record it because it was truly "her" song, based on her story of growing up. Well, she was dead on the money, this is THE song of her career. She has Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin to thank for it. I've heard the demo recorded by Tom and Allen (it plays on www.nixacountry.com and you can request it if you haven't heard it). Personally, I love Miranda's version, it makes me cry every time but I love the original version just as much. Here is Tom performing it at the Keywest Songwriter's Festival.
