HONEST OPINIONS WANTED
Just an impromptu poll for country music fans: If you were out there looking for music from new artists, just shopping for something new, would a band with the name "Blackwater Divide" interest you? If you saw the name but hadn't heard the music, what would your first thoughts be? Do you like the name? If not, why don't you like it? Personally, for me, I think the name is too long and denotes an image of a "ZZ Top" coverband playing a backwoods bar, but for a band who is interested in touring with a major artist and recording, it doesn't work for me. Now I love just the name "Blackwater" though. What do you think? Looking for honest opinions aside from my own. Please leave a comment below.

I agree. As soon as I saw the name I thought I like Blackwater, but not Blackwater Divide. The full name seems to be over thought. I must say the Blackwater reminds me of the Doobie Bros. song. Which I love.
I don't like it. I don't know, something about it just doesn't work for me. It seems like it's trying too hard. Does that make any sense? It's the kind of thing I'd look at, move onto something else and probably forgot about seeing it.
Though I agree with you; I like the name Blackwater.
Agree with you. I like Blackwater on its own but Blackwater Divide is lengthy. However, I would point out that on a sub-conscious level both parts of the proposed name have a negative image. Blackwater instills thoughts of perilous murky waters with creepy, dangerous inhabitants and Divide has its own negative implication. So after that mouthful my thought would be to go back to the drawing board and find a cool name that invokes positive feelings :)
I agree that Blackwater Divide doesn't really flow. The problem with just Blackwater, is that the first thing I think of is the corrupt private security firm of the same name that killed civilians in Iraq & eventually changed their name because it was so associated with the atrocities.
I thought of them as a Doobie Bros cover band by the name - don't like the Divide Part especially since music brings people together so divide isn't the greatest. I do agree the Blackwater is a nice name kind of a southern rock type like the Outlaws or Marshall Tucker Band
I agree that Blackwater Divide is trying too hard.
It's also awkward to repeatedly say out loud. How is the concert crowd supposed to chant it if it's hard to say again and again?
Blackwater on its own is simple, understated yet powerful, and very memorable.
