CD REVIEW: "TATE STEVENS" - THE SELF TITLED DEBUT CD FROM X FACTOR WINNER, TATE STEVENS

CD: "Tate Stevens"
Artist: Tate Stevens
Label: RCA
Release Date: April 23, 2013

When Tate Stevens stepped onto that X Factor stage and sang that first note of "Anything Goes" by Randy Houser, country fans knew they were seeing his first step towards a lasting career in country music.  There is something special about Tate Stevens, maybe it's his honesty, maybe it's the genuine spirit of country he seems to hold in his heart, maybe his way of singing each note from deep in his soul ... Tate's "X Factor" is that unique combination of all three.

Tate's debut self-titled cd, "Tate Stevens", hits shelves on April 23 and based on the success we're seeing from the first two singles, "Holler if You're With Me" and "Power of a Love Song", this one's gonna be one country fans will want to add to their collection. With a similarity to artists such as Craig Morgan, Tate's music has a quality that country needs right now, something that brings us back to the simplicity of a song and the humble pride of where you're from and who you are. He's got a hard road of competition ahead of him with the current direction country music seems to be taking but we think he'll hold his own just fine. With songs like "Ordinary Angels", which shines the light on the good in ordinary people and the love they show every day, and "That's Where We Live", a song showing the pride in one's hometown and upbringing, this is what country is made of, what it's all about and Tate nails it, naturally and seemingly without effort. Even the more upbeat songs on the cd still possess that simplicity that most current music seems to have forgotten. It's just plain ol' good music.

Tate envelopes what country is all about: the belief in tradition, the truth in words, the meaning of a song, and the heart of it's singer. This cd is a welcome sigh of relief, it's just simple music and we love that. Thank you Tate for just doing what you do best, being Tate and letting that reflect in your music. If you listen closely, you can hear country fans "hollerin' with you".
