CD REVIEW: "Proud to Be Here" - Trace Adkins

Proud to Be HereCD: "Proud to Be Here"
Artist: Trace Adkins
Label: Show Dog Nashville
Release: August 2, 2011

Outstanding! Great! WOW! End of review .... nah! While those words do describe parts of "Proud to Be Here", the latest cd from larger than life country mega super duper star Trace Adkins, it doesn't quite sum it up for me. Trace has always been an artist that sings from the heart, sings about what's important, and embeds a lesson in most of his songs. (Although "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" doesn't really qualify as a life lesson). Trace seems to have mellowed over the past couple of cds and it really comes to light in this project. He lays it all on the line about life, love and the importance of family. Trace can bring that importance home like no one else, at least not among recent artists. I have to admit, he makes me get all girly and misty at times ... shhh, don't let him know that though, I have a reputation to uphold, ya know.

The first song out of the gate, "Just Fishin", just grabs the heart from the get go. Although it brings to mind his last teary hit, "You're Gonna Miss This", he ain't missing a thing with this song. As a daddy's girl, it hits home for me. I used to go fishing with my daddy all the time growing up and although I didn't know I'd feel this way now that I'm older, but I sure wish we were sitting on the bank of that pond, lines in the water, bobbers floating, and talking about anything and everything, just spending that important time together that we sadly take for granted. Damn it, Trace, now I'm misty. Why'd you have to go release such a great song AGAIN? My eyes are barely dry from "You're Gonna Miss This".

There are others on the cd that are just as meaningful and honest, those songs that give you that obligatory lump in the throat and there are those that made him famous, the guitar heavy, drum thumpers that seem ready made for radio. No matter what of Trace's styles you prefer, there's something for every taste on this cd. I thought it was a very good cd, but it's hard for me to say anything less than that when it comes to Trace Adkins.

I hadn't heard any of Trace's music until recently. The first song of his I bought was 'You're gonna miss this' which when I got the chance to really sit down and listen to, promptly had me welling up with tears. What an emotive song from a guy with such fabulous rich tone in his vocals! Can't wait to hear more, and will definitely be getting this album. From what you've said, it seems like a 'must listen' Thanks
