The POD Representing Singer/Songwriter Paul Sikes "Today Show" Appearance
Continues to Garner Fans
Sikes had a right-place-at-the-right-time moment with the exact right song earlier this year at the Bluebird Café. "Today Show" co-host Hoda Kotb happened to be in the audience that night and was moved enough by Paul's performance of his song "My Epitaph" to book him on the popular show. Hoda mentioned Paul and the song on the show again last week and played a portion of his new song, "A Seed."
His self-produced Craft album includes 11 cuts he wrote or co-wrote with the likes of Trent Jeffcoat, Tim Johnson, Jordyn Shellhart and others. A bonus cut, "My Home Tennessee," was written by his 82-year-old grandmother, who Paul says, "has a penchant for the arts...I loved it and simply had to record it and include it as part of this collection. In more ways than one, it tells you exactly where I am from and is a beautiful tribute to 'My Home Tennessee.'"
A rare native of Nashville, Tennessee, Sikes signed his first publishing deal in 2007 with Giantslayer Music Publishing and scored his first cut with Emerson Drive. Later that same year, he was flown New York City to receive ASCAP's annual Leon Brettler Award which is given to a promising young and upcoming songwriter. After his first deal came to a close, he went on the road as a guitarist for Jennette McCurdy and Brett Eldredge. He signed with Sony ATV in 2011 for a year, and has had cuts with Billy Dean, Josh Gracin, Jordyn Shellhart, and Texas artist Justin van Sant.
