Presented By The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Nashville, Tenn. (September 10, 2013)—Multi-platinum recording artist Lorrie Morgan has accepted the honor and invitation to perform at one of “Space City’s” most anticipated and prestigious charity events—the 5th Annual T.J. Martell Foundation Best Cellars Celebrity Dinner-Houston fundraiser (to support the T.J. Martell Foundation’s initiative to fund the Physician-Scientist Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center) scheduled to be held Friday, September 20, 2013 at River Oaks Country Club, Houston, TX.

Lorrie will showcase her musical heritage and talent as one of country music’s leading ladies in an up-close and personal intimate acoustic performance. The gala will boast a gourmet four-course meal [prepared by guest chefs Robert Del Grande (chef/owner of RDG And Bar Annie, located in Houston) and Mark Cox, chef/owner of Mark’s American Cuisine] paired with some of the world’s premier vintage wines.

Morgan, who is recognized as royalty in her own right, will mix and mingle among the distinguished guests (with more than 200 anticipated) including many of the wine hosts contributing specialty cabernets, sauvignon blancs, pinot noirs, merlots and chardonnays from some of the finest wineries across the globe. A wine connoisseur and philanthropist, Morgan introduced her own exclusive line (in partnership with Belle Meade Plantation and the American Heart Association)—a limited edition American Sangiovese appropriately named after her hit song “Something in Red.”

The decorated entertainer (in the company with previous celebrities who have lent their time and talents to appear at this event, including: Charley Pride, Lee Ann Womack, Gary Morris, Christian Kane, Storme Warren, Ryan Kinder, Katie Armiger and Mary Fletcher) makes the stop in Houston as a short detour from her aggressive show schedule (both independent and the tandem Grits And Glamour Tour alongside country music great Pam Tillis).

“This is such an honor for me. The T.J. Martell Foundation, and its continued and unwavering effort to offer help—through its research and hosting events such as this—to those stricken with horrific and unthinkable diseases, is a charge very close to my heart,” says Morgan who is a mother and grandmother. “I am looking forward to being in good company with people of same heart and sharing fine wines!”

The 5th Annual T.J. Martell Foundation Best Cellars Celebrity Dinner salutes some of the top wine collectors who come together on one special evening to highlight and share wine from their personal cellars. Beginning the festivities, a Champagne Reception (sponsored by H-E-B) will be held at 6:30PM followed by the dinner, live auction and celebrity entertainment at 7:30PM. The premier food and wine event will provide guests the opportunity to enjoy a fine selection of wines in conjunction with demonstrating their support of the T.J. Martell Foundation’s mission to bring together the music, medical and business communities to help raise vital funds for the Physician-Scientist Program at MD Anderson.

The T.J. Martell Foundation (founded in 1975 by the music industry) is a national nonprofit organization that funds cutting-edge research for leukemia, cancer and AIDS at twelve top research hospitals nationwide. T.J. Martell, and its friends in music, has raised more than $650,000 for the mission of funding the Physician-Scientist Program at MD Anderson.

The Physician-Scientist Program at MD Anderson launches the careers of the best and brightest young faculty members with independent federal grant support. Graduates of the program are established, independent researchers, who are well prepared to become the leaders of translational cancer research nationally and internationally.
