DISCIPLINE: WORDS OF ADVICE FOR SONGWRITERS FROM MARTY DODSON

Reaching your goals requires determination, discipline and a thick skin. This applies in any walk of life, but especially as a songwriter. Songwriters spend hours writing and out of thousands of songs written every year, only a handful are even considered as a possible cut by major artists. They hear the word "no" more in a year than most of us do in our jobs. Their careers are based on the word "yes". In order to make a good living doing what they love, they have to write the right words at the right time for the right artist and finally get that "yes". Those odds are astronomical.

Hit songwriter Marty Dodson ("Must Be Doin' Something Right" - Billy Currington)talks about discipline in a recent post in the Facebook group "SongtownUSA". If you're a writer or interested in how songwriters hone their craft, it's a great group to join.
