CD Review: "Arrivals and Departures" - Darren Kozelsky

CD: "Arrivals and Departures"
Artist:
Darren Kozelsky
Release: 2010

If you're wondering who Darren Kozelsky  is, you're in the same boat I was about a month or two ago. I was cleaning the kitchen and listening to Music Choice's "True Country" channel on Time Warner cable and heard this wonderful voice coming from the television, one I hadn't heard before. The sound was so good that it actually made me stop what I was doing and walk into the living room to see who this artist was. It was Darren Kozelsky  and the song was"Somebody Find Me A Preacher". Apparently Darren has been hiding under the shadows of those popular artists taking over country radio. I looked him up online and he's been playing at least 200 nights a year. How have I not heard of him through my country music circle of songwriters and new artists??? Well, with the release of his new cd,"Arrivals and Departures", Darren's decided it's time to come out and make his presence known.

With undertones of George Strait and Alan Jackson, Darren's style and voice is a welcome standout among today's country music standards. He keeps it simple, somewhat reminicent of the early 90's country we all remember so well and loved so much, yet he mixes it up a little by throwing in just the right amount of kick to keep it sounding current and radio worthy. This cd consists of the kind of music that can make you forget what you're doing for a 3 minute song. There is so much good music on this cd that I can't narrow it down to one or two good songs. The entire cd is praise worthy. I really hope that people pick up on Darren and don't let another good artist fall by the wayside and disappear into the land of those never heard from again.
